The ethno-political conflicts in the South Caucasus: historical and political conditions

The author of the article undertook a study of historical origins and political basis of ethno-political conflicts in the South Caucasus, resulting in a loss of jurisdiction over the territories of Abkhaz and South Ossetian autonomy by Georgia and over Nagorny Karabakh by Azerbaijan, that proved that the roots of ethnic confrontation in the region should be sought in the times when Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia were part of the Soviet Union – state formation of imperial type.Key words: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Abkhazia, Nagorny Karabakh, South Ossetia, the Bolshevik leadership, the Soviet authorities, ethnicity, autonomy, conflict, confrontation, war.
