Abstract

In thе article author reconstitutes main evolution of the institute of alimony from the
ancient times and roman period. Firstly, the emergence of an archetype of the present-
day maintenance obligation between parents and their children was explored. Secondly,
the attention was paid to special features of alimony, regulated by Muslim law. Аuthor
studies the status of illegitimate children in Europe by the beginning of the 20-th cen-
tury.
