WESTERN VECTOR OF THE POLISH GEOPOLITICAL THOUGHT

Abstract

У даній статті детально розглянуто концептуальні розробки польської західної думки, під якою мається на увазі осмислення генезису польсько-німецьких відносин з урахуванням геостратегічних факторів, що впливають на архітектуру безпеки біля західних кордонів польської держави. Процес остаточного оформлення польської західної думки підданий пильному аналізу з урахуванням опосередкованої залученості у польсько-німецькі відносини третіх держав, не тільки по лінії захід – схід, але й північ-південь.

В данной статье подробно рассматриваются концептуальные наработки польской западной мысли, под которой понимается осмысление генезиса польско-немецких отношений с учётом геостратегических факторов, влияющих на архитектуру безопасности у западных границ польского государства. Процесс окончательного оформления польской западной мысли подвергнут тщательному анализу с учётом опосредованной вовлечённости в польско-немецкие отношения третьих государств, не только по линии запад-восток, но и по линии север-юг.

In this article the author dwells upon the genesis of Polish «Western thought» under which one should understand geopolitical rethinking of the Polish – German relations. Although the main characteristics of the Polish foreign policy were the attempts of moving over eastern frontiers of the Polish state one has no causes to underestimate the depth of parallel geopolitical thinking devoted to the opposite flank
of sphere of Polish political influence. Analyzing the historical and intellectual background which favored to emergence of methodologically shaped geopolitical school of «Western thought» the author takes up the aspects of creative work of its founders. As the evolution of Polish «Western thought» was in no case easy the opposite ways of geopolitical thinking are also highlighted because of their importance for Polish geopolitics in general. Polish foreign policy is modified by its neighbors – Germany and Russia – two continental countries. From the Poland`s point of view they pose a threat to its state security. Historically the spreading of Polish influence eastward considers the only right way of strengthening of Poland. Nonetheless the redirecting all its military and intellectual resources towards east caused the neglecting of western vector. It pre-conditioned the geopolitical success of German eastern policy and taking the western Poland under German control. The attempt of breaking this vicious circle was to elaborate practically strong basis of defending Polish interests in the process of permanent Polish-German clashes.
