Abstract. The article examines the current role of the U. S. in Latin America. The problem
of U. S. geopolitical interests in the Latin American foreign policy is analyzed. Systematic reviews
of the prospects for Latin American vector in U. S. policy and the problems faced by the
Obama administration in the region are given.
Today U. S. hegemony in Latin America is getting more and more specifications of a partnership,
the countries of the Western Hemisphere have united to fight against global problems
of the humanity. At the same time, the selection of international partners for the countries of
South and Central America is expanding; they do not consider the relations with the United
States as vitally important. There takes place an active diversification of political and diplomatic
relations on the international arena, so Latin America is becoming less sensitive to the
United States policy. The main task for the region is to create an image of a reliable partner, as
well as to get rid of the titles «younger brother» and «backyard» of the U. S. And the United
States, in turn, must not only maintain the existing economic, political and social relations in
South America, but also encourage the introduction of non-violent reforms and contribute to
the progress in the region. After all, the United States still remain the chief force in Latin America,
though without the past unchallenged dominance.
Key words: USA, Latin America, Latin American vector of the U. S. foreign policy, cooperation
in the Western Hemisphere.
