The approaches to reform the UN Security Council

The author attracts attention to the necessity of United Nations Security Council Reform with a view to its effective performance, analyses the problems of this process and main approaches suggested by the parties concerned, along with the position of Ukraine. As a general conclusion an original compromise alternative is offered, which to the author’s view is deprived of the drawbacks that marred all the previous suggestions.Key words: United Nations Security Council reform, permanent members, nonpermanent members, veto power, regional groups of countries.
