Abstract

Abstract. The article concentrates upon the assessment of the main problem areas of Ukraine
and Hungary and their impact on foreign relations. The state of bilateral trade relations dealing
with global challenges is revealed.
The state of bilateral trade relations on the basis of global challenges is revealed. The global
financial crisis of 2008-2009 and the contemporary political crisis in Ukraine both have negative
impact on the national economies of both countries and their international relations. One
of the obstacles to the development of trade relations between Ukraine and Hungary is that 20-
25% of Hungarian foreign trade depends on the external EU trade policy. EU gets «monopoly»

in trade relations with third countries, as its regulating import activity is fully taken under the
control of the EU. The EU foreign policy partly remained the right for Hungary in trade relations
(export promotion), foreign tourism and investment policy. Consequently, this position of
the Hungarian government, outside the EU countries, first of all, should be aimed at interacting
with its eastern neighbor.
Key words: the European Union, competitiveness, the global financial crisis, investments,
export, import, commodity turnover, quotas.
