Abstract

Abstract. This paper examines the current state and trends of agricultural production in
Ukraine. Identified that for Ukraine the problem of food security is particularly important that
is predetermined by current state of development of domestic agriculture, increasing production
which is mainly extensive. The situation is being aggravated by periodic «manual» state intervention
in the agricultural sector and low effectiveness of the land market. Strategic conditions
for accelerated development of agricultural enterprises in the conditions of accession to the
EU, of course, is to develop an effective innovation infrastructure as a system of organizations
which support the innovative potential of agrarian formations and help to activate innovation.
The strategic goal of agriculture is on transformation of high-tech export orientated farmland.
As a result of the extensive model of the agricultural sector, most of the food security of
Ukraine is outside the thresholds.
In terms of openness of the national economy during the last world trends in the growth of
food shortages and rising prices can be seen as a powerful challenge for Ukrainian agricultural
production. These trends can act as an active stimulus recovery of agricultural production and
export of agricultural products, a source of additional financial resources for the development
and capitalization of the sector, the basis for the disclosure of domestic agricultural potential as
an important and still not open national competitive advantage.
In terms of post-crisis economic recovery Ukraine should provide the basis for sustainable
development of agriculture, increase its competitiveness, overcome price distortions, strengthen
public support for producers using the achievements of European experience. Anti-crisis measures
should be combined with problem solving strategic nature that will help overcome the disparity
of the industry.
Based on the analysis, the priorities of the agricultural sector in the context of food security
tasks Ukraine have been set.
Key words: economic development, food safety, market economy, agriculture, globalization
changes, reform, international experience, openness of the economy.
