Abstract

Abstract. Russian-Chinese relations as relations between the two centres of power in world
politics are characterized by the removal of political confrontation in the post-bipolar period and

current dynamic development of cooperation in many vectors, and apparently act as a factor in
the modern system of international relations, one segment of which is the Asia-Pacific region
which, in turn, today is one of the centres of a global agenda.
The analysis of interaction between Russia and China in the Asia-Pacific area make evident
tendency of active positioning of the two countries themselves in the process of regional economic
and security cooperation in terms of nonequivalence regional status of the parties, where
China is definitely one of the regional leaders, but Russia only challenger to consolidate the
status of Pacific states. This causes different national interests and strategies: for China -
strengthening leadership, implementation of the «indigenous» interests of the territorial nature,
reducing alarm among neighbouring countries; for Russia - incorporation into the structures of
regional cooperation, strengthening its influence, protection the eastern regions, which are detached
in geo-economics sense from the European part.
The regional partnership between the parties to appear in presenting joint initiatives and
mutual support to the incorporation of integration structures. Points of contact of interaction between
Russia and China in the region are common approaches to the vision of regional security,
the solution of the Korean and Taiwanese issues, opposition to strengthening of the USA, the implementation
of infrastructure projects and cross-border cooperation. However, the Russian-
Chinese military-technical cooperation is a factor of destabilization of the Asia-Pacific security
environment .
However, the asymmetry of the power of the parties and conflicting historical past is largely
reflected in the actual bilateral regional cooperation. These factors explained by the intensification
of cooperation between Russia and the countries of the region, which have conflicts of
a territorial nature with China, which, in turn, leads to dissatisfaction of the leadership of China.
Key words: Russia, China, Asia-Pacific region, interaction, collaboration, region.
