Abstract

Abstract. Focusing on the assessment of the processes related to establishment of the subjectivity
of the regions in Europe, scientific definition of the very phenomenon of regionalization,
region as its participant and regionalism as a phenomenon of European policy gains important
topicality. At the same time, there is a diversity of ways how these phenomena and processes are
perceived and interpreted.
Modern political and social science is characterized by the broad variability of interpretation
of the phenomena of region, regionalism and regionalization, based on the absence of one
established understanding of the nature of the region on the inter-disciplinary level. The main
criterion that defines specific perception of these phenomena and their definition is the scientific
task, addressed by a researcher of scientific school.
Key words: region, regionalism, regionalization, definition, EU.
