Abstract

Abstract. Active component of the ukrainian-hungarian relations at the regional level is
cross-border cooperation between border regions of Ukraine and Hungary, which is regulated
primarily by the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government
of the Republic of Hungary on cross-border cooperation on November 11, 1997.
The purpose of the article is to analyze the status and prospects of development of ukrainianhungarian
cross-border euro-regional cooperation and to define the role and functions of the
ukrainian-hungarian border in the context of cross-border cooperation between both countries
in the context of the integration of Ukraine into the European Union.
Ukrainian-hungarian cooperation has varied but it is coherent and integrated. It takes place
at all levels of international relations – from central to regional and local levels. This cooperation
covers various areas – from the protection of minority rights to economic co-operation and
co-ordination of social and economic development of the border regions. Inter-regional cooperation,
the foundations of cross-border ukrainian-hungarian region and multicultural and multiethnic
Euroregional communities are gradually deepening.
