Abstract

Abstract. The paper focuses on the internationalization of research and development by
transnational corporations, expanding of their foreign network of research units. It considers determinants
of such knowledge creation internationalization as well as the scale and national
distinctions in foreign research and development activities by transnational firms. A new level
of transnationalization of the world economy is observed through international fragmentation
of research activities, which are determined by objective factors of both the science and foreign
operations of multinational firms. Characteristics of the global economy, such as a dynamic
process of internationalization of knowledge about multinationals are revealed.
Objective causes of internationalization acceleration of R&D activities of transnational corporations
and the internationalization features indicating higher activity for companies in different
countries are studied – the scope of research projects which have traditionally been under
strong control of parental companies and carried out mainly in the deployment, but over the last decade, this activity was issued abroad, creating a network of controlled research centers
and laboratories of TNCs.
