Abstract

The article reviews influence of non-economic factors on stability of national economies of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Moldova. First three countries entered into the period of independent development as highest economically developed countries of the former Soviet Union and were ahead of most capitalist countries in manufacturing certain industrial products. Over 25 years of their sovereign existence, they have substantially worsened their positions in global economic ratings. Only Russia is one of top 100 countries globally based on the level of economic development (GDP per capita), while other newly independent European states have substantially lower ratings. Main reason for this lag is imitation of market reforms in this region. However, deceleration of economic development of all four countries is also impacted by substantial social issues in their citizens’ lives, as well as instability or conservative rigidity of political systems. Possibility to provide increased modernisation-based stability of national economy of each of the European CIS countries lies in the political area – through wide ranging democratisation of the social life on the basis of formation of civil society. The author emphasizes that it is impossible to overcome the economic imitation with only economic instruments. In order to create an effective model of the European CIS countries national economies the non – economic methods should also be used the instruments of social and political modernization, including wide democratization of public relations.
Key words: economic stability, social life, political system, democratisation of the society, civil society, world ranking, Western newly independent states, Commonwealth of Independent States.
